St Louis Only Abortion Clinic Has Been Threatened To Closed Down

St. Louis Missouri’s only abortion clinic has  recently been threatened to shut down. On Friday the Planned Parenthood location lost it’s license, yet temporarily remain open under a judge’s order.

According to AP News, the health department notified the Planned Parenthood located in St. Louis that its license would not be renewed. In a letter from the state, “serious and extensive” deficiencies were listed for the reason as to why it wasn’t renewed.

Those deficiencies include concerns about the clinic that initiated  from inspections that were performed back in March. Dr. Randall Williams. The director of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, said that only four out of 30 cited deficiencies were corrected.

St. Louis Circuit Judge Michael Stelzer said that the preliminary injunction he previously issued would stay in place, which means the clinic can continue to perform abortions at least until he issues a final ruling outlining the next steps.

A spokeswoman for the facility said that the decline to renew the license will only affect the clinic; meaning the abortion services will come to an end. However, other gynecological and reproductive health services would continue.

M’Evie Mead, director of Planned Parenthood Advocates in Missouri, said that the health departments concerns with the clinic were taken care of with “medically accurate and thorough responses.”

She continued to say that the state is using the licensing process as a weapon aimed at stopping abortions.

As  previously reported by The Shaderoom, Missouri could become the first abortion-free state since Roe v. Wade.
