Adekunle Gold Shares Story Behind His Latest Hit Single ‘Sinner’

Nigerian highlife singer Adekunle Gold now says his recent hit single ‘Sinner’ was written based on the Bible story of King David and Bathsheba.

In the story, David who was the king of Israel at the time according to the bible story while walking on his castle’s rooftop accidentally sees a beautiful woman taking a bath, he gets attracted to her and despite the fact that she was married to one his soldiers – then in the battlefield, the King ends up sinning by not just having a romantic affair with her but setting the woman’s husband up for death by putting him in front of the battle line.

This story perfectly fits in ‘Sinner’ lyrics where Adekunle Gold in his opening verse notes that loving his love interest was his greatest sin.

“Loving you be my greatest sin, said I was done but see I’m here/ You don’t make it easy rara, to stay away from yawa/ Sheba o Sheba girl, you make me a sinner, Sheba o Sheba/ Don’t make me pull the trigger, never say never, know I can do whatever,” read the first lines of the song which Adekunle Gold featured American singer, Lucky Daye.

The singer revealed the idea behind the song in a tweet where he noted: “Sinner Facts: it’s the story of King David and Bathsheba from the Bible.” In another tweet, Adekunle Gold said he wrote the story while in his hotel room in Los Angeles (LA).

“Sinner Facts: I wrote the song on the 24th of September, 2020 in my hotel room in LA,” he tweeted. ‘Sinner’ is a song produced by Blaise Beats and blends Afrobeats with some elements of Pop and R&B.

It is the second track that Adekunle Gold has released this 2021, following the first single ‘It Is What It Is’. Sinner also has an official music video released recently – in which Adekunle Gold employed his wife Simi as a video vixen.
