The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, says Africa has “automatically” become the new frontline of terror and global militancy.
Mr. Buhari stated this in his opinion piece published by This Day.
He wrote the opinion piece after the Taliban seized Afghanistan’s capital Kabul following a US and NATO forces pull out.
According to Mr. Buhari, “If Afghanistan has taught us a lesson, it is that although sheer force can blunt terror, its removal can cause the threat to return.”
Nigeria has over the past several years experienced deadly attacks from militant groups especially Boko Haram.
An estimated 200,000 have reportedly been killed in Nigeria due to attacks by militants.
Millions of others have displaced and hundreds of people, especially students, have been kidnapped in Nigeria by alleged militant’ activities.
