As the U.S and others fight for the release of Brittany Griner a racial comparison to 2019’s Audrey Lorber spills out.
Back in 2019 a court in St. Petersburg released a young American woman from prison after spending only two months behind bars on a drug charge.
They arrested Audrey Lorber due to an “attempt to import marijuana purchased in the U.S. into Russia.”
They fined Lorber, 19, 15,000 rubles ($235), according to a statement released by the press service of St. Petersburg’s courts, but was credited for time served, released and exempted from paying the fine.
She had 19 grams of THC.
President Biden spoke out about Russia’s sentence towards Brittney Griner.
“Today, American citizen Brittney Griner received a prison sentence that is one more reminder of what the world already knew: Russia is wrongfully detaining Brittney. It’s unacceptable, and I call on Russia to release her immediately so she can be with her wife, loved ones, friends, and teammates,” Biden said in a statement.
