Beyoncé Discloses Why She’s Extremely Private About Her Personal Life on Social Media

Beyoncé explained during a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar on Tuesday, Aug. 10, that the sole reason she chooses not to share her personal life on social media is because she wants her followers to focus on her art.

The 39-year-old singer, who has been in the entertainment industry since she was about 16 years old following the success of her group Destiny’s Child, revealed how the cons to using social media influenced her decision to remain private.

Beyoncé reveals in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar magazine that the reason why she is extremely private about her personal life on social media is because she wants people to focus on her art and her life’s message. Photo:@beyonce/Instagram

She told the publication, “We live in a world with few boundaries and a lot of access. There are so many internet therapists, comment critics, and experts with no expertise. Our reality can be warped because it’s based on a personalized algorithm. It shows us whatever truths we are searching for, and that’s dangerous. We can create our own false reality when we’re not fed a balance of what’s truly going on in the world. It’s easy to forget that there’s still so much to discover outside of our phones.”

The mother of three continued by disclosing how she wanted to emulate artists like Sade and Prince by having her fans only be interested in her work and nothing more.

“I’m grateful I have the ability to choose what I want to share. One day I decided I wanted to be like Sade and Prince. I wanted the focus to be on my music, because if my art isn’t strong enough or meaningful enough to keep people interested and inspired, then I’m in the wrong business. My music, my films, my art, my message—that should be enough.”

The “Crazy In Love” vocalist also shared that she purposely “set boundaries” throughout her entire career between her stage persona and personal life because she saw how easily one could lose himself or herself within the business.

Beyoncé wrapped up the conversation by stating she keeps a part herself reserved for loved ones because she’s had to fight for “sanity” and “privacy” while in the industry. “In this business, so much of your life does not belong to you unless you fight for it. I’ve fought to protect my sanity and my privacy because the quality of my life depended on it. A lot of who I am is reserved for the people I love and trust.”

She added,”Those who don’t know me and have never met me might interpret that as being closed off. Trust, the reason those folks don’t see certain things about me is because my Virgo a– does not want them to see it…. It’s not because it doesn’t exist!”

As Beyoncé’s initial statements about her privacy became viral, many people agreed with the singer’s stance, while others pointed out how several celebrities should take note.

“She has given enough to this world she can keep some to herself.”

“EXACTLY!! 👏 Y’all know people live REAL lives without posting it? Or It’s only real if you see it posted? 😂…. just weird. A lot of people live fake lives on here all day everyday!”

“That’s was being a real celeb is about ….being ELUSIVE.”

“These other “celebrities” should take 📝!!

“Some of these ppl overshare and could take a page out of her book.”
