The President of the United States of America (USA) has urged “historic investment” to deal with climate crisis.
His call comes after Storm Ida killed an estimated 45 people in the US.
The flash flooding in the north-east of US caused destruction to several properties, local US media reports monitored by African Entertainment revealed.
President Biden has stated that the climate crisis in the US is “a matter of life and death”.
New York City and New Jersey witnessed several rainfall, leading to subway services being suspended and roads blocked.
Reports say residents got trapped in flooded basements and cars.
New Jersey Governor, Phil Murphy, announced that around 23 people had died in his state – most of them stuck in their vehicles as the waters rose.
At least 14 people died in New York City, including a two-year-old boy. Reports say 11 of those who died in New York City drowned while trapped in their flooded basements.
Five people reportedly died in Pennsylvania, while a state trooper in Connecticut was swept away as he responded to a call.
Other cities like Maryland and Virginia recorded deaths, officials said.
