ATLANTA — Atlanta Police are currently investigating after a woman was shot and killed outside a McDonald’s restaurant near the West End neighborhood of Atlanta Wednesday afternoon.
Details are limited, but the shooting happened just around 3:30 p.m. where police said they found a person shot to death at 1100 block of Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard SW near the intersection of Queen Street. That’s not far from the The Mall at West End and the West End MARTA station.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found the woman who had been shot. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died.
Homicide investigators are on the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. It’s not known at this time whether police are searching for a suspect. Identifying information on the victim is also unknown.
Video from 11Alive crews at the scene show police tape outside the restaurant and its parking lot, with several officers and police cruisers parked along the street.

According to Atlanta Police crime data, this is the 126th homicide in 2023, which is on track to be the lowest number of homicides in the city since reaching a peak of 170 in 2022. In 2021, there were 158 homicides logged. Investigators worked 157 homicides in 2020.
