Erykah Badu Apologizes for Being a ‘Terrible Guest’ After Doing This at Barack Obama’s Birthday Party

Erykah Badu is taking accountability and apologizing to the Obamas.

Six days after attending the former president of the United States’ 60th invite-only birthday party, the soul singer is issuing an apology for posting a video of the event. Barack Obama’s birthday celebration took place at their $11.75 million Martha’s Vineyard home in Massachusetts and allegedly had a “no photography” rule.

However, the night of the party, Badu uploaded a selfie-style video that showed not only herself, but also the 44th president smiling and dancing with other celebrities then going to give R&B artist H.E.R. a hug. Badu deleted the video hours later after it had already circulated on numerous blogs, and now she’s taking to Twitter to give her apology.

She tweeted, “Mr. And Mrs. Obama , Please forgive me 4 being the ‘terrible guest’ at such a sacred event for your family. I was so inconsiderate, Thank you for all your love. What an example of ‘how NOT ‘ to be …… erica.”

A few fans had some questions, and the “Didn’t Cha Know” singer decided to answer one of them. A fan wrote, “They made you take down the video and apologize publicly, lol,” and to clarify she responded, “Naw sis. It’s just right thing.”

In addition to Badu, other notables in attendance included celebrities like H.E.R., actress Gabrielle Union and her husband Dwyane Wade, and singer John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen. Barack and Michelle Obama had to adjust their plans and invite list in light of the recent wide spread of the coronavirus delta variant.

At first, hundreds of people were invited to celebrate Obama’s special day but, after receiving major backlash, his spokesperson Hannah Hankins said they decided to limit “the event to include only family and close friends.”

While no masks were being worn in the video, it’s reported that Obama did give his guests custom face masks.
