George Zimmerman Lawsuit Against Parents of Trayvon Martin Dimissed

A George Zimmerman lawsuit was filed against the parents of Trayvon Martin, claiming he was defamed through their assertions that he is a racist killer who racially profiled Trayvon. He added that they “destroyed his goodwill and reputation in the community,” according to AP News.

George Zimmerman lawsuit was filed as a defamation and conspiracy lawsuit against several parties in 2019.

In the 2013 high profile trial Trayvon Martin was confirmed to have been walking with a hoodie and carrying skittles when he was shot by George Zimmerman. Zimmernam claimed he shot Martin in self-defense. In the state of Florida defense with lethal weapon is permissible.

As a result, to Florida laws, for three years, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) investigated Zimmerman on civil rights charges.[28] In February 2015, the DOJ concluded there was not sufficient evidence that Zimmerman intentionally violated the civil rights of Martin,[28] saying the Zimmerman case did not meet the “high standard” for a federal hate crime prosecution.[28]

Fast forward to 2019, Zimmerman filed suit against the parents of Trayvon Martin, the attorney Ben Crump and his publisher, Harper Collins, after the release of Crump’s 2019 book “Open Season: Legalized Genocide of Colored People.”

Judge John Cooper dismissed the defamation and conspiracy lawsuit made by the neighborhood watch volunteer against Sybrina and Tracy because he did not prove “any fraudulent representation.”

“There can be no claim for conspiracy to defraud if there is no adequately stated claim for fraud,” Judge Cooper wrote in the court order that also named HarperCollins Publishers who published a book Sybrina and Tracy wrote about the shooting.

Tracy Martin commented on the audacity of Zimmerman’s lawsuit, claiming it added “insult to injury,” as reported by CBS Miami.

“It was like trying to pour salt into the [wound],” said Trayvon Martin’s father. “Here we are, ten years later, and you’ve already gotten away with the murder of our son, and now you come up with this baseless lawsuit.”
