At least 49 television stations in Ghana are due to be shut down.
Ghana’s Minister for Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, announced this known in a post on her official Facebook page.
According to her post sighted by African Entertainment, “NCA shutting down 49 illegally Operating TV stations.”
The Minister shared a list of the stations considered to be illegal and that which are to be closed down.
The crackdowns on television station by the Ghana is to prevent the airing of what the Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah called “unethical content”. Government in collaboration with other stakeholders such as the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association, Ghana Journalists Association, National Media Commission, the Bank of Ghana, is setting up a multi-stakeholders Committee to monitor the broadcasting landscape in Ghana.
The Committee as African Entertainment earlier reported, is to recommend for the withdrawal, suspension or closure of any television or radio station that airs unethical content.
