Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has finally reacted to the issue of he having a second wife.
On two separate occasions,
Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has made a public reference to a name, Ramatu, that has come to be associated with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as his alleged second wife.
First, when President Nana Akufo-Addo was being sworn-in for his second term of Office on January 7, 2021, Mr Bagbin mentioned the name Ramatu while referring to the wife of Dr Bawumia.
And again on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 when Mr Akufo-Addo delivered the State of the Nation Address (SONA), the Speaker once again mentioned Ramatu in reference to Dr Bawumia’s wife.
During the SONA, the Minority side in the House asked to see Ramatu Bawumia after the Speaker acknowledged dignitaries present and mentioned Samira Bawumia.
In response to the minority bench, Right Hon Bagbin observed that “Honorable members, I don’t know which of you has a girlfriend called Ramatu but we don’t have any dignitary here called Ramatu.”
But in a statement issued by the Communication Bureau of his office, Dr Bawumia urged all and sundry to “ignore” the “fabricated Ramatu story.”
According to the statement, Dr Bawumia has never met or seen “this purported Ramatu let alone take her as a wife.”
It added that “she is a figment of the imagination of people trying hard to tarnish the image of the Vice President for their own purposes.”
