Carlos Alvarez, a 48 year old passed away due to a tshirt tangling. It was around 4 A.M according to Newseek, that police responded to the subway in New York City.
“It is believed Alvarez had choked to death after his shirt became tangled in an escalator in the Bronx. He was discovered by officers while they were responding to calls of an emotionally disturbed person in the area.”
Once police arrived Alvarez was cut out of his shirt and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A witness told the New York Post that he saw the man struggling. “When I got off the train, I saw the guy stuck on the escalator,” Giovanni Fernandez said. “A lot of people were surrounding him. He was at the top. I saw the blood. His head was split open. All you see is this guy sprawled face down.”
This is not the first escalator incident this montg. A man in a wheelchair had also died after waiting 10 to 15 minutes for an elevator. When he realized the elevator was not coming he decided to use the escalator, and ended up tumbling down to his death.
