This week, fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar revealed that rapper Megan Thee Stallion was this month’s cover star.
The photos of Meg are gorgeous and feature her in a stripped-down, simple look with an orange backdrop.
And the cover itself shows Meg in a black ensemble in a candid-ish pose.
Some were less than impressed with the photos, and it drew some criticism:
As a fan of Meg and a fan of big-glam moments (I’m gay), I understand people wanting some grandeur with this shoot. However, Meg did discuss the importance of a stripped-down moment for her in the cover story.
“I’m realizing that I don’t have to be in full glam every time you see me, because I’m just getting more comfortable with myself and more comfortable with my skin,” Meg said.
The photographer, Collier Schorr, also shared how involved Megan was in the selection and editing process of the shoot.
“A most remarkable experience making pictures with Megan Thee Stallion, who discussed each picture and edited afterwards with me,” the caption read.
“Total collaboration — as it should be — to make together new images of her at this moment in her life,” they added.
So, there you have it. Meg intentionally is going for a stripped-down, minimalist look for this shoot. And she was involved in the process the whole way through. Therefore, we stan, we support, we love.
