Menstrual Blood For Facial Pampering Is A New Thing

Who ever thought that menstrual blood could be used for facials. Not to mention who ever thought anyone would be brave enough to do it. A Cosmopolitan blogger decided to take the dive and test her menstrual blood on her face.

Jessica Defino posted an article back in February 2020 saying how she decided to use her menstrual blood for facial masking. The blogger not only did it, but she loved it.

“No matter how I feel about menstrual masking (I love it), and what it’s done for my skin (a lot), you should know that absolutely no medical professional—nor Cosmo—under any circumstances, would ever (like, ever, ever) advise trying this at home. Menstrual masking is entirely my choice, and I do not encourage anyone else to take on this potentially dangerous, very, questionable DIY. We all got that? Cool.”

Jessica says she was inspired by an article from Dazed titled “5 Uses For Your Period Blood.” She said she never had a use of her Period before, like many women, except to dispose of it. While Jessica’s first reaction was to not do it, she said she later the only reason she was saying no was because of patriarchal B.S.

The blogger said this isn’t the first time she questioned bodily fluids for beauty remedies.

“I mean, I’m definitely not the first person to Google is semen good for skin?” And there are countless articles about aesthetician Georgia Louise’s viral penis facial, made from human foreskin cells andloved by classy lady Cate Blanchett. So if dicks can make it into mainstream beauty, why should period blood be any different? Um, it shouldn’t, IMO”.

The article stated that menstrual blood is filled with stem cells, along with incredibly rich nutrients, like zinc, copper, and magnesium—all of which are also found in trendy beauty products and acne treatments on the market.

So I’m sure you are wondering how she did this. The first thing that came to mind was a menstrual pad being smeared on her face. Jessica said she used a menstrual cup, to collect the blood. She dipped two fingers in after taking a deep breathe and smeared it all around her face. Jessica allowed the masking blood to soak into her skin for 15 to 20 minutes. These steps were repeated for three days.

Jessica recorded her journey. According to the blogger she saw dramatic improvement.

” I’m not even exaggerating—my previously blah skin seemed a bit brighter and calmer, and even though the monstrous cyst on my chin was still there, I swear it was that much smaller. Honestly, it was so good that I immediately texted a friend, “OMG IT’S SO GOOD.”

Jessica says she is all for menstrual masking but advises that if you want to try it , to NOT  tell anyone. She goes on to say, It’s free, it’s easy, and my skin loves it.
