During those years she joined WindyCity radio and developed No Filter Radio. The show shined the light on many up and coming artist, focusing on rotating new music into the atmosphere. While attending Illinois Media School, Mikayla found herself working with some major radio names like Frankie Robinson from WGCI. Mikayla’s dream led her into branching out on her own. What inspired your journey in radio?
I grew up listening to the radio everyday. When I got out of school I couldn’t wait to get in the car and listen to music. As I got older I developed a passion for it. I loved music & Ive always asked extensive questions not because I was nosey lol but because I’ve always been genuinely interested in ppl I got my start in radio interning for a local online station at first then I gradually moved up to having my own show on that same station.

What was the hardest part of your journey?
The hardest part of my journey was getting out of my shell. When I first started no one knew who I was so I started going up to local stores, restaurants, and stopping random people on the street downtown telling them to tune in to my show and collecting drops from them.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to break into the radio business?
My advice would be to just go for it. I know it’s cliche but it’s true, don’t let what ifs hold you back you can be your own worst enemy at time so just DO IT! Stay consistent & work hard!
