Nicola Coughlan Bridgerton Easter Egg Twitter Reveal

By now, I would hope that you’ve had the good sense to binge the glory that is Bridgerton, but if you haven’t you better turn away right now because there are major spoilers below!!

Okay, so just a little while ago, Nicola Coughlan — aka Penelope Featherington — tweeted that she included a somewhat sizeable easter egg in the show’s very first episode.

Ok I’m just curious, has anyone spotted the massive Easter Egg about Penelope in the very first scene of Bridgerton?

Now, as someone who’s read all of the books and binged the series more than once, I like to think of myself as BuzzFeed’s resident Bridgerton expert. But, dear reader, even I didn’t notice this hidden gem.

As fans started hypothesizing in the replies, Nicola responded to one particular tweet and OMG:

I immediately logged onto Netflix and found the first moment Penelope is on screen in the show’s pilot and, well, see for yourself.

    Shall I zoom in?

Yep! One giant-ass feathered quill. (Feathered…Featheringtons, teehee.)

Anyone who’s seen the final episode of Season 1 knows that Penelope was revealed to be Lady Whistledown, so a quill is an extremely apt symbol, if I do say so myself.

And, obviously, Nicola thought so, too. “I decided on a prop for the scene where you first see Penelope, that prop happened to be a giant feather that looked a lot like…a quill Feather,” she shared on Twitter.

After dropping that golden goose of an easter egg, Nicola shared another tidbit:

If you rewatch there are lots of little hints in there, let me know if you spot any more and I can confirm/deny 💛

More?!?! Okay, coolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcoolcool, guess I have to go rewatch for the fourth time (I say as though I wasn’t already going to do exactly that).

^Live footage of me an hour before getting that (frankly, rude) “Are you still watching” message.

Did you spot any easter eggs or notice any clues upon a second watch? Share in the comments!
