    Roosevelt Highway shooting involving officers South Fulton

    Here’s what we know.

    SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — A man is dead after firing shots at officers who were responding to a 911 call in South Fulton Tuesday evening, according to authorities. 

    Around 6:50 p.m., the South Fulton Police Department said officers were called out to the 4400 block of Roosevelt Hwy in reference to a sexual assault call. The police department also called out its SWAT team. 

    South Fulton Police Chief Keith Meadows said as officers approached the scene, the suspect fired a shotgun in the officers’ direction.

    Meadows said that responding units returned fire as the suspect retreated into a shed. In an update, the police department’s preliminary investigation revealed an officer returned fire– and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. 

    No officers were hurt in the incident, the police department said. 

    The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called out to investigate what happened. Once agents gather details, the GBI said it’ll issue a statement.
