Minister for Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has insisted that Government acquired telco company, AirtelTigo for “just a dollar.”

According to her, the NDC MP for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, told “a barefaced lie” about the deal.

She stated in a post sighted by African Entertainment on her official Facebook page that “some people find it very difficult to veliev we can negotiate good deals for government.”

“I signed the AirtelTigo contract. We acquired it for just a dollar.”

“Someone, an MP, says he heard me say we paid $25 million. A barefaced lie….blatant untruth.”

Sam George had raised issues with the Madam Owusu-Ekuful’s claim that government acquired the telecommunication company for $1.

The MP demanded details on the selling price of AirtelTigo which Government has taken over.

“I side with most Ghanaians who are requesting assurances that the fate of AirtelTigo will not be similar to most government parastatals, underpinned by negligence, inefficiency, and drastic financial meltdown. Quite clearly, the bedrock relevance of ICT to the transformation of Ghana’s economic development agenda cannot be over-emphasised as evident from the recent global epidemic,” according to him.
