The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, is expected in court this morning in connection with former President Jacob Zuma’s corruption trial.
He is to appear before the corruption inquiry which was set up to probe allegations that his Mr Zuma – during his tenure – allowed the wealthy Gupta family to ‘steal’ resources belonging to South Africa and also influenced key policies and cabinet appointments.
Local media reports say South Africa lost an estimated $81 billion (£58bn) due to the alleged corruption.
Former President Zuma and the Guptas have denied wrongdoing.
During the tenure of Mr Zuma as President, Mr Ramaphosa was serving as Deputy leader of the governing African National Congress (ANC) party.
Mr Ramaphosa later replaced Mr Zuma as President of South Africa.
He is due to answer questions on what the ANC as a party knew, if anything, about the alleged corruption and if they did anything to try to stop it.
