T.I. Defends Lizzo Over ‘Fatphobia’ Comments

Fans and celebrities continue to offer their support days after Grammy Award winner Lizzo emotionally took to her social media account to address internet trolls who bashed the songwriter over her weight and other aspects of her physical appearance.

Over the weekend, rapper T.I. took to his Instagram account where he chimed in on the discussion to encourage the “Rumors” singer to “f-ck them people” and anyone else who had nothing positive to say about her.

“My message to Lizzo. I don’t know Lizzo personally. Listen, sweetheart, you are beautiful, you are talented, you are good enough for all the great things this world has to offer. Don’t wait on nobody out there in the public to validate that,” Tip said in the seven-minute clip as he appeared to be casually driving around in his car. “Their perception of you has more to do with them than it does with you. All these people out here have negative s–t to say that’s because they feel negatively about themselves.”

The “Whatever You Like” rapper repeated his message, telling Lizzo, “Them speaking negatively about you, or me or everybody else, bruh, that has more to do with them than it does to do with you.” He continued, “Please don’t wait on them to give you the okay to be happy; please don’t wait on them to give you the okay to be satisfied with yourself, your accomplishments, your achievements.”

“F-ck them people. F-ck what people say,” he added. “They should have no jurisdiction or no hold on your life.” T.I. captioned the heartwarming post with one more message. “ @lizzobeeating You fye shawty,” he wrote. “Keep doing what you do & 🖕🏽Deez people mane‼️ – Terrence Howard voice.”

Lizzo had been defending herself against what appeared to be an influx of offensive comments from trolls online following her latest single, “Rumors,” featuring Cardi B.  As previously reported, insults included comments about her weight, and she was even compared to a “mammy.” The term, considered offensive by many, is used to describe “a Black woman whose job is to take care of white children.”

In an emotional Instagram Live session held on Aug. 15, Lizzo addressed her critics and expressed how frustrated she had been working on her craft, among many other things, all while enduring hurtful comments on the internet. The 33-year-old admitted that “Sometimes I feel like the world just don’t love me.” She added, “It’s like, it doesn’t matter how much positive energy you put into the world. You’re still going to have people who have something mean to say about you.”

Fans applauded the rapper’s kind gesture, including one fan who commented, “ NAILED IT! Very encouraging words TIP’ shout out to Lizzo, she’s talented and beautiful!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️.” Another person wrote, “I hope Lizzo hear this because you are right on! Ya dig in my T.I. voice” They added, “❤️❤️❤️ keep spitting facts King 🔥🔥🔥.” “You dam sho right!!!!… throwing stones at their own dam glass house hoping it breaks yours,” expressed a third.
