Tina Knowles-Lawson Seemingly Accuses Disney of Possibly Letting Color Keep it from Promoting Beyoncé’s ‘Black Is King’

Tina Knowles-Lawson is calling out Disney+ “with love” for not promoting “Black Is King” adequately.

On Saturday, July 31, Knowles celebrated the one-year anniversary of her daughter Beyoncé’s visual on Instagram, where she also took to the time to question Disney+, in a now-deleted caption, on why the brand fell short in promoting the film.

After sharing a small clip of it, Knowles gave praise to her eldest daughter’s project and even encouraged those who have not seen it yet to go and watch. She said, “Everything about it was stellar And was watched and praised by millions. This is where she turned her attention toward the Disney streaming service. She said, “I cannot help but wonder if a white man had made it would it not have been promoted the hell out of , and nominated for all kinds of awards. Could it have something to do with the title “Black Is King ” Is that why Disney did not promote it?????? Yes I said it!!! With love.”

Tina Knowles-Lawson deletes former caption questioning Disney over its lack of promotion for “Black Is King.”

It looks like the mother of two had a change of heart because she later reworked her caption to “I year aniversary Black is King watch on Disney + @thirdwardthrills.”

“Black Is King” is the film adaptation of Beyoncé’s music album “The Lion King: The Gift,” which she created to correspond with the reimagined live-action movie “The Lion King.” In addition to being a lead in the visual album, she was credited as a director and writer as well. Before creating the album, Beyoncé also starred in the live-action film, voicing the beloved character of Nala.

The live-action version of “The Lion King” derives from the classic 1994 animated Disney eponymous film. For her role in the movie, Beyoncé received a Kid’s Choice Award for Favorite Female Voice from an Animated Movie and a People’s Choice Award in 2020 for Favorite Animated Movie Voice.
