Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken out on Juventus exit from the UEFA Champions League at the round of 16 stage.
According to him, rather than dwell on what has gone wrong in the UEFA Champions League, the focus of the reigning Italian champions was to see how best the club could work to win some domestic titles this season.
“More important than the number of falls you take in life, is how fast and how strong you get back on your feet… True champions never break! Our focus is already in Cagliari, in the Serie A struggle, in the Italian Cup final and in everything that we can still achieve this season,” he said in a post sighted by African Entertainment on his official Facebook page on Saturday, March 13, 2021.
It would be recalled that Portuguese giant, FC Porto, pulled off a major upset on Tuesday night, March 9, 2021, in Turin, Italy, to progress to the quarterfinals of the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League.
At the end of normal time (90 minute), the score was Juventus 2-1 Porto, making it 3-3 on aggregate.
Both clubs then went into extra 30 minutes where Porto put up the surprise, leaving Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates frustrated.
Despite winning 3-2 in Turin, the Italian champions failed to progress beyond the round of 16 because Porto enjoyed an away goal advantage.
The first leg was played in Portugal and ended 2-1 in favor of FC Porto.
But Ronaldo noted that “It’s true that the past belongs in museums (I should say!), but fortunately, football has memory… and so do I! History can’t be deleted, it’s written every single day with resilience, team spirit, persistence and lots of hard work. And those who don’t understand this, will never achieve glory and success.”
