Real Madrid have defeated Liverpool in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.
Brazilian footballer, Vinicius Junior was on target twice to help hand Los Blancos a crucial 3-1 victory.
He opened the scoreline in the 27th minute.
Asensio doubled the score for Madrid in 36th minute, with Mohammed Salah finding Liverpool’s lone goal of the match in 51th minute.
But Vinicius Junior scored his brace in the 65th minute to make the score 3-1.
Madrid went into the game without two of their key players namely Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos.
Varane was ruled out after returning a positive result for Coronavirus.
“Real Madrid CF informs that our player Raphael Varane has given a positive result in the Covid-19 test that has been carried out this morning,” the club had announced in a statement on its official website.
Real Madrid hosted Liverpool tonight, Wednesday, April 6, 2021, in Spain, with the match kicking off around 7:00pm.
Madrid’s captain, Sergio Ramos, had earlier been ruled out for the Liverpool clash which was staged at Alfredo Di Stefano, due to injury.
The return leg is set for Anfield coming Wednesday, April 14, 2021.
