Wattpad Webtoon Studios is tackling an adaptation of Hawk, its popular sci-fi webnovel by Mike Booth, tapping Christopher Yost to pen the project.
The project is being developed as an animated series, which Yost, a Marvel Comics scribe who segued to screenwriting with Thor: Ragnarok and The Mandalorian, will write.
Executive producing will be Aron Levitz, David Madden, Taylor Grant, and Sydney Bright for Webtoon.
Booth’s webnovel follows the adventures of of space bounty hunter Kas Balera. When a disaster of epic proportions rocks the entire solar system, Balera must rally a stolen federal robot, a child genius, and her trusty ship, the Calista, in order to save the galaxy from destruction.
The novel has over one million reads on Wattpad.
“Mike Booth’s Hawk is everything I love in sci-fi – it’s action, adventure, mystery and intrigue, mind-blowing new worlds, aliens and tech, all wrapped around great characters, a found family and a future that’s worth fighting for,” said Yost in a statement.
Yost is known as the co-creator of Logan character X-23 who also has an extensive resume in animation. Among his extensive credits are teleplays for Star Wars: Rebels, Cowboy Bebop, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
This fall, he is returning to comics with Unnatural Order, a supernatural sci-fi title that, based on pre-orders, has become Vault Comics’ best-selling comic of all time.
