We Will Not Return As Working Members Of Royal Family

    Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have declared that they will not return to the United Kingdom (UK) Royal Family as working members.

In multiple British media reports monitored by African Entertainment, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they will return the honorary military appointments and royal patronages to the queen.

It would be recalled that about 12 months ago, Prince and Markle made a shocking announcement that they intended to quit as senior royals. In their statement released on January 8, 2020, the couple said they wanted to become financially independent.

They subsequently settled down in the U.S. away from the monarchy. Since then, they have also secured lucrative multimillion-pound deals with both Netflix and Spotify and established their Archewell foundation

And in a reported statement, the Buckingham Palace indicated that “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed to Her Majesty The Queen that they will not be returning as working members of the Royal Family.”

According to the statement, “Following conversations with the Duke, the Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of the Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service. The honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by The Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of the Royal Family.”

“While all are saddened by their decision, the Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family,” the statement indicated.

Reports suggest that the military, Commonwealth and charitable associations which will return to the Queen include: The Royal Marines, RAF Honington, Royal Navy Small Ships and Diving, The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, The Rugby Football Union, The Rugby Football League, The Royal National Theatre and The Association of Commonwealth Universities.
