Zambia’s election ‘not free and fair’

The sitting President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu, has claimed that his country’s recently held elections were “not free and fair.”

He made the allegations as early results show him main contender, trailing Hakainde “HH” Hichilema.

Mr Hichilema  is a businessman and he is positive about winning the race.

But President Lungu claimed election officials from his Patriotic Front party were chased from polling stations.

He stated that his party’s officials were chased, the votes left unprotected.

According to Mr Lungu, violence in provinces where he lost votes had rendered “the whole exercise a nullity”.

Mr Lungu, who is seeking second term of office, says his party was considering its next course of action.

However, Mr Hichilema has responded to President Lungu’s claims, saying his allegations were the “desperate final act of an outgoing administration”.

As earlier reported by African Entertainment, millions of Zambians went to the polls last Thursday in the country’s General elections.
