Big Latto and Mariah Carey Big Energy track dropped in March of 2022. But the two didn’t stop there.
Mariah Carey made a special appearance during Latto’s performance of the remix to “Big Energy.”
After Big Latto began the show with her hit “It’s Givin,” she then went into her track “Big Energy,” as “Fantasy” singer Mariah Carey graced the stage with her famous whistle tone. The “Emancipation of MIMI” artist sported a Dolce and Gabbana black gown.
Latto, born Alyssa Michelle Stephens spoke out about her latest album 777.
The original “Big Energy” released September of 2021 as the lead single for her album.
The song sampled Tom Tom Club’s 1981 single, “Genius Of Love,” and most recently Carey’s hit “Fantasy.” Record breaking, Fantasy became the first song by a female artist, and second overall to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100.
The song peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Latto’s first Top 40 hit.
In regard to the song Latto stated, “I fell in love with the beat. It’s crazy to think that they weren’t even going to play the song that’s getting all this attention. I tried it that night. It was very different for me, and definitely took me out of my comfort zone, [but] I didn’t give up. I tried it three different days before I was in pocket with it and got in my zone — but when I did, it was up from there.”
Latto also accepted Best New Artist award presented by Sprite onstage during the 2022 BET Awards at Microsoft Theater on June 26 in Los Angeles, California.
Academy Award-nominee Taraji P. Henson returned to host the annual award show, dubbed Culture’s Biggest Night, for the second year running. The BET Awards took place on Sunday, June 26, on BET at 8 p.m. ET/PT, and broadcasted live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
