Ellen Degeneres cries during the Ellen Shows final episode. The show ran for 19 seasons.
Degeneres announced the final last year saying, “If you’ve been watching this show, and I trust that you have, you know that a few weeks ago we celebrated our 3000th show. 3000 shows! So, that means as of today, we’ve done 3000 shows, plus 14, which is um…3000, plus 14 shows. I know, it’s a lot. And today, I have an announcement to make. Today, I’m announcing that next season, Season 19, is going to be my last season.”
Today we taped the final episode, Ellen Degeneres wrote.
When we started this show in 2003, the iPhone didn’t exist. Social Media didn’t exist. Gay marriage wasn’t legal. We watched the world change, sometimes for the better, sometimes not. But whatever was happening, my goal was always for the show to be a place where we could all come together and laugh for an hour. Being invited into your lives has been the greatest privilege of my life and has brought me incredible joy. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you
She also shared a clip of the final episode in tears she said, “it’s so emotional to me because, you forget that doing something that to me was kind of selfish. Everyone around me that was making money off of me thought it was the wrong decision, because they were still making money on me.”
In tears the comedian continued, “they said not to do it. You forget when you so something it impacts so many other people. The fact that I know that my time here on this earth, I’ve helped change people’s lives. That’s more than this. I mean I love making people laugh. I love making people happy. It’s why I decided to go into this business to be a comedian. Because I just love making people laugh. It turns out that I can actually have this platform to help change people’s lives. So, it’s extremely emotional for me. But thank you so much.”
The Ellen Shows final episode will air Thursday May, 26th.
