    How States and Citizens Are Handling Covid 19 Pandemic

    Covid 19 is said to become immune according to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, however he spoke on the Dr Oz show saying that 60% of the Nation will catch it. He goes on to say the when you get past about 1% of the population with viral infections, you continue to no longer grow linearly. The growth becomes so explosive because of community spreading.

    Dr. Sanjay compared the Coronavirus to past viruses like, Mers, Ebola, Sars, and Swine Flu. The virus spread is more similar to H1N1, in which by the end of the year there were more than 60 million people effected with the disease. Coronavirus is the largest quarantine in the history of the world, according to Gupta.

    So what are people doing in the meantime to maintain money and health? Mike Dempsey, an Uber driver in Alabama has a coronavirus routine. Each time he continues a drop off he uses Clorox disinfecting wipes to rub down the inner and outer door handles, door lock and window buttons, armrest and seat belt and belt buckles. Then he opens the back doors wide and sprays a liberal amount of Lysol spray inside the passenger areas of his car, filling them with a mist that he hopes will kill any pathogens and help keep him and his customers from contracting the disease. And he uses hand sanitizer liberally throughout his shifts as an added precaution.

    Arizona is handling things virtually like most states. Tempe on Friday was the first Valley city to announce it would hold City Council meetings without the public physically there. On Sunday, the city announced it would close all public facilities until the end of the month.

    Fred Meyer’s in Alaska is ensuring that residents have proper care. The store took a precautionary measure to  limit the number of cold, flu and sanitary products per order…so everyone can have access to the items they need. The store stated, “that’s why our supply chain teams are working to ensure that the food, medicine and cleaning supplies our customers need are reaching our stores as quickly as possible and are available through our pickup, delivery and ship services”.

    California is hiring more people at the Safeway and Raley’s grocery store. The company says  they’re looking to hire hundreds of workers in Northern California. The demand for personal shoppers has increases due to the virus. “If your income has been impacted due to current events or if you’re looking for part-time work, Raley’s has opportunities for you to earn an income and serve our communities,” the job post says.

    Disney is lending a hand in Florida. As schools are closed down and yet feeding students who rely on school meals, Disney has been donating perishable items to feed the students. “We’re getting pans of cooked meat, lots of bags of chopped vegetables, baked goods — all really good food that comes right out of their kitchens,” said Greg Higgerson, Second Harvest’s chief development officer. “It’s coming at a pretty crucial time.”

    Walt Disney World Resort, on the other hand, has said it will keep its parks closed through the end of the month. The food it donated Monday will need to be consumed within 48 hours to prevent spoilage.

    Georgia has suspended state testing for students. School Superintendent Richard  Woods said, “Right now, schools’ focus needs to be on the safety of their students and staff,” Woods said. “The focus should be first and foremost on health and safety, then on flexible and creative ways to keep learning and growing. It’s common sense: testing and accountability requirements should not place an additional burden on students, parents, and educators during this time, and they will not in Georgia.”

    Diana Ross has cancelled her concert in Hawaii. Promoters said Monday that the iconic Motown singer has canceled her upcoming Hawaii concerts. She had been planning to perform at the Blaisdell Arena and Maui Arts and Cultural Center in May. All tickets bought through TicketMaster will automatically be refunded to the purchaser’s credit card. Mariah Carey has postponed her Hawaiian concert to November.

    In Illinois a Judge halted a change for Food Stamp requirements that would of been effective as of April 1st. The requirements were set to stop food stamp recipients from receiving funds without a minimum amount of working hours. The judgement was turned over due to the pandemic easing concerns that hundreds of thousands of people would lose food assistance at a particularly vulnerable time.

    In Iowa the Funeral Directors Association has limited funeral guests to no more than 50 attendees. The IDAF issues a statement saying, “We encourage bereaved families to work with their funeral director to create meaningful services that fall within the governor’s emergency order of limiting large public gatherings.”

    In Kentucky residents supported a donut shop owner who had allegedly lost customers due to racial coronavirus scare. Yong Taing, the owner of GADS never assumed his business slowed down due to racism. He assumed everything was just stopping because of the virus. Th rumor was placed on Facebook. When residents saw the post they rallied to support the restaurant that had supported their city for 30 years.

    In Maine, Aroostook county two men established a social media page to help residents in need. “I was seeing, you know, all the posts about people stressing out about toilet paper and just their wet wipes and diapers and their basic needs and how these weren’t being able to be met, and I know there’s enough love in Aroostook County to solve any problem that we have, and I knew that if we got the word out about people with needs, that – that other people would solve them,” says Isaac Nelson.

    In Massachusetts’s EJ’s Pizza, owner Eladio Guevara is pledging to provide food for school kids, the elderly and others who could use a meal during the crisis. “No charge. No charge. All for the kids and families. Just trying to help out as much as you can,” said Guevara.

    Michigan has issued out a list of places to get free food in Detroit.

    New Mexico offers 11 ways to explore the world while stuck at home during this crisis. Virtually visit a famous museum or art gallery from around the world.     South Dakota warns that they are able to test about 900 people for the coronavirus. Department spokesman Derrick Haskins said the state has about 1900 tests for the virus. And since an individual would need to undergo a minimum of two of the tests, including an oral and a nasal swab, the state can test about 900 people.

    Sentara Healthcare in Virginia is handling Covid 19 by offering drive through screening.

    Seattle releases immigrants due to covid 19 spread by contact. “Because risk mitigation is the only known strategy that can protect vulnerable groups from Covid 19, public health experts with experience in immigration detention and correctional settings have recommended the release of vulnerable detainees from custody,” the suit, filed in the Western Washington U.S. District Court, said.
