Highly Spiritual Music signee, Mr. Drew has responded to claims that he has been stealing songs from other artists.
According to Mr. Drew, he learned to sample other artists’ songs from colleague musician Kuami Eugene.
Mr. Drew made this confession in an interview with Abeiku Santana on Accra-based radio station Okay FM monitored by African Entertainment.
He said Kuami Eugene started ‘stealing songs’ before him, urging Ghanaians not to tag him as the only artist who samples other works from other artists in making a hit song.
“ Kuami Eugene started stealing songs from a legendary musician like Adane Best and others before I recently started,” he said.
“Kuami Eugene has a scholarship in it” he noted in a reply to Abeiku Santana who said the two of them have been stealing songs.
It will be recalled that Mr. Drew was accused of stealing Nigerian/American artist Rotimi’s song ‘Love Riddim’ and subsequently had his song taken off all streaming platforms including YouTube.
However, Mr. Drew explained that it wasn’t theft because the song was released as a “cover” which is accepted in the music fraternity.
