21-year-old rapper Lil Tjay was hospitalized after being injured during a robbery. The rap artists famously known for his hit songs like, “Calling My Phone” and “Headshot”. Prior to the incident he shared a story to his social media.
He wrote, “just because you’ve been around a person doesn’t make you entitled to the fruits of their labor.” Additionally stating, “Envy is at an all-time high. Be careful ouchea”.
Police responded to a 911 call about the shooting at 12:08 a.m. The incident occurred at a Chipotle fast-food restaurant at an outdoor shopping center in Edgewater.
Another person suffered injuries during the shooting as well. 22-year-old man, Antoine Boyd. Boyd, found at a nearby gas station on River Road also suffered a gunshot wound.
Both victims were taken to the hospital where they were being treated, one of them in critical condition.
The other suffered non-life threatening injuries.
As for Lil Tjay, authorities later reported him in stable condition.
Authorities provided an update and says “updateb on #BCPONJ & @EdgewaterPolice investigation in Edgewater, NJ shooting: per initial investigation, does not appear to be random act and one victim upgraded from critical to stable condition. Other admitted to hospital with non-life threatening injuries in good condition..”
An investigation led by Bergen County officials and the Edgewater Police Department revealed a robbery attack.
27-year-old Mohamed Konate attempted to rob Merritt, Boyd and a third person, identified as 24-year-old Jeffrey Valdez, when the shooting occurred.
Later Wednesday, officials arrested Konate in New York. His counts include, three counts of attempted murder, three counts of armed robbery and other weapons charges. Law expects to extradite him to New Jersey. Valdez and Boyd also face charges with unlawful possession of a weapon.
