Solange’s mom Tina Lawson stated how proud she is as Solange Knowles continues to contribute to history. Most recently, the 36-year-old mom wrote a composition that will be performed this fall during the NYCB’s Fall Fashion Gala.
The NYCB announced the commission in a press release August 15. Gianna Reisin, the youngest choreographer to work with the NYCB will perform for the “Don’t Touch My Hair” artist’s composition.
Call her the holy Trinity of New York City Ballet. Historically, Solange is now the third female as well as African American composer for NYCB.

I am beyond proud of Solange! She is always kicking down doors and opening doors for other Artist of Color! Doing Performance Art in the most prestigious Museums like The Guggenheim, Moca, The Getty, Venice Biennale, The Elbphilharmonie Hamburg Germany. The prestigious Chinati Foundation in Marfa Texas Art Festival. Several installations In Museums in Europe. Now she has written and composed the most beautiful musical Piece for the New York Ballet. The untitled piece premieres on September 28 at Lincoln Center as part of NYCB’s Fall Fashion Gala, with additional performances in October and May.
Previous to this performance, the ‘Bring It On’ actress performed “An Ode To, at the Guggenheim in 2017. As well as “Bridge-s,” performed at Los Angeles’ Getty Center in 2019. Vulture questioned if this leads into her next album since, 2019’s “When I Get Home”.
Outside if music and composition Knowles has focused on the Saint Heron library. A new collection dropped of literature and Visual stories launched on the site August 8th.
