Will Smith slapping Chris Rock may have been one of the biggest talks around media for a while. But the effect of responses left Will Smith silence for months. The 53-year-old finally let viewers into what happened in his world during the incident.
One of the biggest questions was why didn’t the “Fresh Prince” actor apologize to Chris Rock right away. “It’s all fuzzy. I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is he’s not ready to talk and when he is he’ll reach out”.
The “I am Legend” actor also said he saw the video of Rosalie Rock Speaking on Will Smith slapping Chris Rock. During her interview she said, “When Will slapped Chris, he slapped all of us,” Rosalie “Rose” Rock told South Carolina news station WIS-TV on Friday, marking her first interview since the incident on March 27.
Will Smith apologized to Rosalie Rock and the entire family during his YouTube release.
Additionally, he said he and Tony Rock’s relationship may be irreparable.
“I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk,” Smith said.
The actor later accepted the best actor award for his performance in “King Richard,” a portrait of Serena and Venus Williams’ hard-charging father.
“I’ve spent the last three months replaying and understanding the nuances and the complexities of what happened in that moment,” Smith said in the video.
“I’m not going to try to unpack all of that right now, but I can say to all of you that there is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment.
“There is no part of me that thinks that was the optimal way to handle feelings of disrespect or insults,” Smith said.
