Atlanta crime 3 shot in Mechanicsville neighborhood

The three were all shot in what police described as a drive-by shooting in front of a home on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard.

ATLANTA — A 19-year-old man is dead after three people were shot Tuesday afternoon in a drive-by shooting in Atlanta’s Mechanicsville neighborhood, police said.

Atlanta Police said the shooting was “targeted” and that the suspects opened fire inside of a white four-door sedan in front of a home in the 300-block of Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard.

According to the aunt of one of the victims, who spoke to 11Alive reporter Cody Alcorn at the scene, the people were all shot in what she described as a drive-by shooting in front of the home at the corner of Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard and Windsor Street in southwest Atlanta.

The aunt told 11Alive she was inside her home when she heard what she described as fireworks. She walked outside and said she found three people, including her own nephew, shot. She said all three were rushed to Grady Hospital.

The Atlanta Police Department said officers were called to Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard on a call of “several persons shot” and found three people with gunshot wounds. One of the teens was rushed to the hospital, where they later died, police said. The other two victims were “alert, conscious and breathing,” according to police.

Homicide commander Lt. Germain Dearlove said the other two victims were between the ages of 19 and 21.

11Alive’s SkyTracker flew over the scene, which showed a large police presence.

Windsor Street SW and Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard are currently closed as Atlanta Police investigate the shooting. It’s unclear when the roadways would be reopened.
