The shooting happened before 9 a.m. Long Beach Police officers were called out to a home in the 300 block of 69th Way for reports that a man had stabbed his mother. When officers got there, they found the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Eriberto Penaloza, holding a knife.
When officers asked him to drop the knife, police said he didn’t and “raised the knife while advancing toward the officer.” That’s when officers shot him.
Penaloza, the woman’s son, later died from his injuries. Officials said the suspect’s mom’s injuries were not life-threatening.
