Newly-elected President of Spanish football club, Barcelona, Joan Laporta, has showered praises on Lionel Messi.
According to Laporta, the Argentine soccer icon is the best footballer in the world and in history.
He made the remarks in his first speech as Barcelona President following his election over the weekend.
Laporta left the role as Barcelona President back in 2010.
But over the weekend, he won by a majority of 54% in the Election that saw Messi visiting Camp Nou with his son to vote.
Messi has won several individual and club awards at Barcelona.
He has won six Ballon d’Or, other prestigious awards, and the UEFA Champions League title for more than three seasons.
The seasons between 2009 and 2014 proved to be his years at club football level as he glitters in both in La Liga and European football.
And Laporta, aged 58 who is immediately beginning his new role, told the Spanish press conference as indicated in a report monitored by African Entertainment in the Marca that: “I want to thank the members who have participated in the elections, which make us more than a club.”
He was further quoted by Marca as saying “Today it was 20 years ago that a boy named Leo Messi made his debut with Barca.”
“He is the best in history and in the world. He came in to vote with his son and has participated in this election as an example of what we have been saying.”
