    Teacher Janiece Jenkins Saves a 9-Year-Old Choking on Water Bottle Cap

    A New Jersey, teacher Janiece Jenkins saves a 9-Year-Old choking on water bottle cap during class. The incident happened last Wednesday at East Orange Community Charter School.

    According to reports, Robert, the 9-year-old student was attempting to open his water bottle during class. He initially tried to twist the cap off, but it would not open. So, he decided to use his teeth to open the bottle.

    In the full video the 3rd grade student is seen holding the water bottle over his mouth with his head back. He then squeezes the bottle and water gushes out.

    Next, he is seen with his hand towards his throat, realizing the water bottle cap got stuck in his airway.

    He stands up, faces the opposite direction. Robert told Pix11 news, that he ran towards the sink first to try to get the water bottle cap out. He then turns to go towards the teacher when he realized he couldn’t.

    As he is walking towards the teacher Janiece Jenkins, the teacher he is pointing towards his throat and hits his chest.

    The teacher then turns him around a performs the Helmich maneuver.

    Robert is seen pointing to the water bottle cap, after it was released from his throat.

    The teacher then wipes his face.

    The full video of the incident last about one minute. It was all captured by a surveillance camera inside of the classroom.

    According to Emedical Health, it takes about 4 to 6 minutes for fatality from choking. Needless to say, if Ms. Jenkins did not respond to the student fast enough this could have been fatal.

    Janiece Jenkins told the news station, she did not really think. She just jumped into action afterwards.

    School officials will be honoring the third-grade teacher with a proclamation in June.
